  • Our final tips for choosing the right swimwear

Choosing swimwear for pear shapes

You’re a pear shape if… you’ve got large hips, narrow shoulders, and a small bust.

If you’re a pear shape, the trick is to balance your upper and lower body out, so they look in proportion. The best way to do this is to add curves to your top half – this draws the eye away from your hips.

A tankini is excellent if you’re rocking a pear shape as it accentuates your bust while drawing attention away from your bottom half. We love the Gottex Paradise Halter Tankini as it has a bright and colourful top and a more subdued bottom. If you prefer a one-piece swimsuit, give the Aubade Beaute Sublime Khaki Swimsuit a try. The light-coloured blocking on the top half of the swimsuit is stunning and will emphasise your top half.

Alternatively, a bikini works well as you can add volume to your top half while playing down your bottom half. A high-cut waistline is great as it elongates your torso and makes your legs look extra long!

The Pain De Sucre Zebra Fabia Bikini is a fun choice for pear shapes. Not only is it high-cut to show off your pins, but the silver metal loops and halterneck straps emphasise the natural curves you have up top.

Choosing swimwear for apple shapes

You’re an apple shape if… you’ve got a wide waist, narrow hips, and a large bust

If you’re a top-heavy apple type, you want to focus on your amazing breasts and slim legs, all while drawing attention away from your midriff.

Many apple-shaped women think they can’t pull off a bikini, but we say… rock it! Try a bikini top with a bold and eye-catching design. A high-waisted bikini bottom will flatten a belly while emphasising the hips. We recommend the Menta Orquidea Underwired Bikini with its underwired top and stunning floral print.

If you’re looking for a one-piece swimsuit, try one with patterns around the neckline and hips that pull attention away from your middle. We love the Miraclesuit Belle Trois Sunrise Siren Swimsuit as the sweetheart neckline flatters and supports the bust while the dark colours on the bottom slim the waist.

Choosing swimwear for rectangle shapes

You’re a rectangle shape if… you’re straight up and down with a small bust and slim shoulders

You may find yourself comfortable wearing any kind of swimwear as a rectangle shape, but if you’re looking to add curves to your hips, waist and breasts, there are a couple of tips to follow.

If you want to wear a one-piece swimsuit, a high-cut leg or plunging neckline will make your hips and bust look bigger. The Pain De Sucre Bonnie 61 Swimsuit comes in a wide range of colours, and the lace neckline means you can accentuate your bust as much or as little as you want.

Looking for a bikini to wear on your holidays? Try a triangle or halter neck top to give you curves or opt for something in a bold colour. The Tessy Glitter Gina Bikini is absolutely stunning, and has ties on the bottom to highlight your waist. Alternatively, the Blake 22 Franges Bandeau Bikini is a quirky two-piece that will show off your delicate shoulders.

Choosing swimwear for hourglass shapes

You’ve got an hourglass shape if… you have a slim waist and evenly-proportioned bust and hips

Finding the right swimsuit is all about keeping the proportions in balance. Of course, if you’ve got an hourglass shape, you already have pretty balanced proportions.!

You will likely find that many swimsuit styles will suit you – the trick is to avoid mismatched colours and patterns that can hide your natural curves.

If you’re looking for a bikini, the best thing to do is keep things simple. A bandeau top will look great if you’re small-chested; you may want to try a halter neck, triangle top or underwired top if you’re a little more well-endowed.

The Pain De Sucre Tiffany Pourpre Bikini is a fantastic choice as it’s incredibly versatile. It can be fastened as a halter or at the middle of the back, and the briefs can be worn high or low. If you're looking for something patterned, the Nuria Ferrer Jungle Bikini provides a stunning pop of colour, while the band around the waist emphasises your hourglass shape.

Swimsuit-wise, we recommend a plunging neckline to show off your bust, but you can give anything a try! The Roidal Diamond Galaxia Halter Neck Swimsuit has a low neckline with a stunning diamante finish, perfect if you’re a fan of glitz and glam!

Choosing swimwear for inverted triangle shapes

You’re an inverted triangle shape if… you have broad shoulders, narrow hips, and shapely legs

If you have this body type (often referred to as an ‘athletic’ body shape), you might want to try and balance your proportions by reducing the width of your shoulders. The best way to do this is to stick with dark colours up top and bolder colours below that show off your fabulous legs.

Stick to thicker straps if you’re looking for a swimsuit that flatters – the Soya 61 Nuit Swimsuit combines a rounded neckline with high sides and an eye-catching cross-back finish.

Bright coloured bottoms and side-ties in a bikini can add more curves. The Aubade Douceur de Reve Trop Bandeau Bikini flatters broad shoulders, and the patterned bottoms draw eyes towards a toned waist.

Don’t forget the resortwear!

After you’ve finished resting by the poolside with your favourite book, don’t forget to protect yourself from the sun with our beautiful range of resortwear

We have a wide collection of summer separates that will take you from the beach to the bar in a matter of minutes!

Our top tip? A sarong or pareo is perfect for flattering all body types as it's so versatile. Wrap it around the body and wear it on one shoulder for a stunning asymmetric effect – perfect for inverted triangles. Alternatively, tying it around the waist will flatter an hourglass shape. Use it to highlight the areas of your body that you love the most.

We love the Lise Charmel Splendeur Orchidee Long Pareo – a lightweight wrap in an opulent flower print. Perfect for warm summer nights!

Our final tips for choosing the right swimwear

We wanted to finish this article with some of our top tips for choosing a swimsuit that not only fits, but flatters.

  • Choose something that you truly feel comfortable in. Even If a swimsuit looks great, you don't want to be pulling it up or pulling it out of your bum every five minutes!

  • Getting a good fit is important, especially if you're planning to swim a lot. Always try your swimsuit on before you pack it in your suitcase and don't be afraid to size up or down if you need to

  • Be brave. A swimsuit may look so-so on the hanger, but amazing when you try it on!
